Wearable Payment Market to Reach USD 36.18 Billion by 2032 as Smartwatches Lead and NFC Payment Rings Gain Ground

India's wearable payment market is projected to reach USD 253 million by 2032, while smart payment rings are expected to register the fastest growth at 22.0% annually.

The Global Wearable Payment Market was valued at USD 20.36 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 36.18 billion by 2032, expanding at a CAGR of 8.56% during 2026–2032, according to MarketsandStats estimates. Global shipments reached approximately 76.31 million payment-enabled wearable devices in 2025, led by smartwatches from Apple, Samsung, Huawei, and Garmin. NFC-enabled fitness bands, payment rings, bracelets, and conventional watches represented smaller hardware categories.

According to Omdia, global wearable-band shipments exceeded 200 million units in 2025, increasing 6% year on year. Xiaomi held an 18% share, followed by Apple at 17% and Huawei at 16%. Xiaomi, Apple, and Huawei's strong shipment volumes reflect their established positions in the global wearable hardware industry.

Smartwatches Account for 97.8% of Revenue, Led by Apple and Samsung

The smartwatch segment was valued at USD 19.91 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 35.24 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 8.50%. Smartwatches accounted for approximately 97.8% of global wearable payment hardware revenue, with premium devices dominating sales value.

Apple led the market with estimated payment-enabled hardware revenue of USD 13.16 billion in 2025, followed by Samsung at USD 2.32 billion, Huawei at USD 1.62 billion, Garmin at USD 1.16 billion, and Xiaomi at USD 483 million. Apple's premium smartwatch portfolio remained the largest revenue contributor, while Huawei and Xiaomi maintained strong positions in China's mainstream wearable market.

In September 2025, Apple introduced the Watch SE 3 at a starting price of USD 249, alongside the Series 11 and Ultra 3. Samsung's Galaxy Watch portfolio and Garmin's premium sports watches remain important competitors in higher-priced wearable categories.

India Wearable Payment Market to Reach USD 253 Million Following Apple Pay Expansion

India's Wearable Payment Market was valued at approximately USD 142 million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 253 million by 2032, expanding at a CAGR of 8.58%. Premium smartwatches represent an important opportunity in the country's developing payment-enabled hardware segment.

On September 2026, Apple launched Apple Pay in India, initially supporting eligible Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Compatible Apple Watches gained access to contactless payments at participating merchants.

Apple reported that its payment service was available across more than 90 countries and regions, with over 11,000 banking and payment-network partners worldwide. India remains a price-sensitive wearable market, with banking partnerships and affordable NFC-enabled devices among the industry's important commercial priorities.

Smart Payment Rings Lead Segment Growth at 22.0% CAGR

The Smart Payment Ring segment was valued at USD 38.40 million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 154.47 million by 2032, registering a CAGR of 22.00%. Tapster, PAGOPACE, and EVERING are among the specialist manufacturers offering compact, battery-free NFC payment rings.

Payment-enabled fitness bands represented a larger market of USD 344.39 million in 2025, with revenue projected to reach USD 650.06 million by 2032 at a CAGR of 9.50%. Xiaomi, Huawei, and other wearable manufacturers compete across affordable and mid-priced devices, although payment compatibility differs by product and country.

Payment bracelets and wristbands were valued at USD 25.64 million in 2025 and are projected to reach USD 64.16 million by 2032, growing at 14.00% annually. Hospitality, entertainment, and lifestyle accessories represent important commercial applications for these devices.

Retail Payments Lead Applications as Hospitality and Transit Expand Adoption

Retail remains a principal application for wearable payments, particularly across supermarkets, restaurants, convenience stores, and other contactless-enabled merchants. Public transportation in Japan and payment wristbands used in entertainment venues and resorts represent additional established applications.

According to the S&P Global Market Intelligence 451 Research Global Merchant Survey (2025), commissioned by Discover Network, 66% of surveyed merchants considered digital wallets highly important, while 55% viewed payments as a strategic business priority. Its 2024 Consumer Fintech Global Survey found that 60% of surveyed consumers preferred contactless payment methods, with 61% having used a digital wallet during the preceding 90 days.

Discover Global Network also identifies hotels, resorts, amusement parks, music festivals, and transit systems among commercial settings for passive NFC payment accessories. The survey figures concern digital payments broadly rather than wearable-only transactions.

Passive NFC Accessories Attract Traditional Watchmakers and Jewelry Brands

Payment-enabled conventional watches generated an estimated USD 48.02 million in 2025 and are projected to reach USD 69.86 million by 2032, expanding at a CAGR of 5.50%. Swatch and Mondaine are among the traditional watchmakers offering contactless payment functionality in conventional watch designs.

Passive NFC payment rings, bracelets, and watches represent a distinct product category within wearable hardware. Tapster, PAGOPACE, EVERING, and other specialist brands compete through compact designs, payment compatibility, and banking partnerships.

Polar also introduced payment-enabled wristbands powered by Fidesmo, priced at EUR 59.90 in Europe, adding another commercial product to the NFC accessory category.

Fidesmo Expands Banking Coverage for Specialist Payment Wearables

Banking compatibility remains an important competitive issue for dedicated payment-ring and bracelet manufacturers.

In November 2024, Fidesmo reported support for more than 230 card issuers across over 40 countries, with over 20 participating OEM brands. By May 2025, the company reported support for more than 860 banks.

Tapster, PAGOPACE, Mondaine, and other participating manufacturers are active across European markets, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Nordic countries. Issuer availability remains an important distinction between specialist payment accessories and established smartwatch payment ecosystems.

Analyst Commentary

Banking compatibility remains a defining competitive issue in the wearable payment hardware market. Specialist payment-ring and bracelet manufacturers face uneven issuer support across countries, while Apple, Samsung, and Garmin benefit from more established smartwatch ecosystems. Retail distribution, supported card networks, and premium hardware pricing remain important areas of competition.
