Mechanical Thrombectomy Devices Market to Reach USD 2.82 Billion by 2032 as Stroke Eligibility and Procedure Volumes Expand
The Global Mechanical Thrombectomy Devices Market was valued at approximately USD 1.57 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach approximately USD 2.82 billion by 2032, expanding at a CAGR of around 8.7% during 2026–2032. Approximately 285,000 mechanical thrombectomy procedures were performed globally in 2025, supporting strong demand for stent retrievers, aspiration catheters, balloon-guide catheters, guide catheters and microcatheters.
A large untreated stroke population remains the main source of future procedure growth. More than 600,000 people experience a first ischemic stroke annually in the United States, while around 200,000 experience recurrent stroke. The annual U.S. population includes approximately 80,000 large-vessel occlusions and 65,800 medium-vessel occlusions, creating a combined LVO and MeVO patient pool that remains substantially larger than current thrombectomy procedure volume.
Clinical evidence is increasing the number of patients considered for mechanical thrombectomy. Large-core stroke trials have shown meaningful improvement in functional outcomes, while guideline support for thrombectomy in selected basilar artery occlusion patients within 24 hours is expanding intervention beyond traditional early-window anterior-circulation stroke.
By product type, stent retrievers generated approximately USD 628 million in 2025, representing around 40% of global market revenue. Aspiration catheters accounted for approximately USD 538 million, or about 34%, supported by increasing use of large-bore aspiration systems and combined thrombectomy techniques. Guide and balloon-guide catheters generated approximately USD 222 million, while microcatheters and related accessories contributed around USD 180 million.
Anterior-circulation large-vessel occlusion remained the largest application, representing approximately USD 1.19 billion, or 76% of global revenue in 2025. Posterior-circulation stroke accounted for around USD 220 million, while distal and medium-vessel occlusions represented approximately USD 160 million.
The U.S. Mechanical Thrombectomy Devices Market was valued at approximately USD 420 million in 2025 and is projected to reach around USD 730 million by 2032, expanding at approximately 8.2% CAGR. Around 50,000–55,000 mechanical thrombectomy procedures were performed in the country during 2025. Strong comprehensive stroke-center coverage, higher adoption of premium aspiration and stent-retriever systems and continued expansion of neurointerventional treatment support the U.S. market.
Asia Pacific has emerged as the largest procedure-volume region. China performed approximately 81,865 mechanical thrombectomies in 2023, representing 16.2% year-over-year growth, and continued expansion of stroke-center capacity has strengthened regional procedure demand. Europe also maintains a large established treatment base, supported by national stroke networks and broader access to endovascular therapy.
Competition remains concentrated among Penumbra, Stryker, Medtronic, Johnson & Johnson/Cerenovus, Terumo/MicroVention and other neurovascular device companies. Penumbra reported USD 947.9 million in global thrombectomy revenue in 2025, although its thrombectomy portfolio also includes pulmonary and peripheral vascular applications. Regulatory activity remains active, with the NeVasc Aspiration System receiving FDA clearance in November 2025 for neurological thrombus retrieval.
Through 2032, market growth will be determined primarily by LVO and MeVO identification, thrombectomy treatment penetration, stroke-center capacity, large-core and posterior-circulation eligibility, annual procedure volume, aspiration and stent-retriever utilization, device consumption per case and regional access to neurointerventional care.
